Event Review: S.K. at the Rusty Nail

On Friday, June 24th, Philly’s own S.K. had a dope performance at The Rusty Nail in Ardmore.

Honestly, S.K. and fellow Philly rapper, Antwan Davis, were the two best acts on the whole show. Among the 21 artists on the event roster, there were a few memorable performances. Starting the show was hard metal band, Primary Sector, who definitely opened the show with a bang. They’re an unusual act-opener and the hard rock songs woke everyone up. The up and coming rap duo DR gave the crowd a set of songs about their life with a hard beat. Christian/Secular Rap artist Will. A. Mase had a pretty dope performance as well, with good music. My personal favorite was the song titled “Damn”.

But none of the acts could top SK’s high energy performance. With an amazing band called “Band for Higher” backing him up, SK had the whole crowd rocking, dancing, and singing along to all of his songs. If you are not familiar with his music, picture an artist with real lyrics that you can relate to with a beat that you can vibe to. Now picture this artist performing dope covers to Biggie’s “Juicy and Ryan Leslie’s “Glory”. That’s SK. As an ending to his set, he brought out Philly’s favorite cool rapper, Chill Moody, and got the crowd even more excited.

All in all, the show as a whole was OK but, S.K. put on an awesome performance. It’s always a blessing and enjoyment to see and talk about great artists with great music and an even greater determination to be the best.
